The distributed rooftop plant will put clean, self-generated power straight into the glassware maker's production lines — cutting energy costs and carbon emissions at the source.
SHANGHAI, China — July 2026 — Xinyu Energy Co., Ltd. has begun construction of a 600 kW distributed rooftop solar power project for Shanghai Huajia Glassware Co., Ltd., giving the manufacturer its own power plant right above the shop floor.
Developed under the "self-generation, self-consumption, surplus-to-grid" model, the project will cover the plant's existing rooftops with high-efficiency photovoltaic modules. Once the array is commissioned, clean electricity will flow directly into the factory's operations during daylight hours, easing pressure on the local grid and trimming the plant's electricity bill.
The 600 kW array takes shape across the factory rooftops in Shanghai.
Why rooftop solar fits glassware manufacturing
Glassware production is energy-intensive by nature. Melting furnaces run continuously, forming and annealing lines draw heavy loads around the clock, and electricity ranks among the plant's largest operating costs.
Rooftop solar attacks that cost at its source. Rather than buying every kilowatt-hour from the grid at peak tariffs, the factory generates its own power during precisely the hours when demand — and price — are highest. Any surplus is exported to the grid, and the array keeps working for decades, with no fuel and almost no moving parts.
For manufacturers facing volatile tariffs and tightening carbon targets, on-site generation has become one of the most direct ways to take control of both.
A project built around the customer's load profile
The 600 kW system is engineered to run in parallel with the grid, so production continues without interruption while solar power carries the daytime load. Because the array sits on existing rooftops, it requires no additional land and no changes to the production layout — the factory keeps manufacturing while the plant is built above it.
For a business whose margins are shaped by energy prices, the project turns an unavoidable cost line into a controllable one, and gives the company a measurable reduction in its carbon footprint to point to.

From design to commissioning, one team on site
The project kicked off this month with teams from both companies gathering at the factory in Shanghai to mark the start of construction. As the EPC partner, Xinyu Energy is responsible for system design, equipment supply, installation and commissioning, and will continue to support the plant after it goes into operation.
The milestone reflects the same logic driving a wave of distributed solar adoption across China's manufacturing belt: rising power prices, maturing policy support for self-generation, and a growing number of factories that would rather generate their own power than watch their energy bill fluctuate with the market.
Work on the rooftop array is now under way.
