Xinyu Energy engineers crews have completed interconnection and metering work at the Qingpu District factory, clearing the way for solar power to flow into the production lines.
SHANGHAI, China — September 2026 — Xinyu Energy Co., Ltd. has reached a key milestone on an approximately 1 MW distributed rooftop solar project at Shanghai Tusheng Auto Parts Co., Ltd., with grid-connection and metering work now complete at the factory in Qingpu District, Shanghai.
Engineers from Xinyu Energy worked alongside the project team at the site to commission the interconnection switchgear and metering equipment that links the rooftop array to the plant's power supply. With the connection in place, the factory is set up to run on self-generated solar power through its production hours and to export any surplus to the grid.
State Grid Shanghai and project engineers commission the interconnection and metering equipment at the Qingpu District site.
The milestone that turns a rooftop array into a working power plant
Modules on a roof are only hardware. Grid connection is what turns them into an operating asset: the point where protection settings, metering and synchronisation are verified, the plant is brought into step with the utility network, and every kilowatt-hour generated starts to be accounted for.
That step is also where the technical quality of a project shows. It requires the array, the inverters, the distribution equipment and the factory's own electrical system to work as one — and it has to be done without disturbing production on the other side of the wall.
The roughly 1 MW array covers the plant's existing rooftops, requiring no additional land.
Why auto parts plants are natural candidates for rooftop solar
Automotive component manufacturing runs on tight schedules and heavy equipment. Presses, machining lines, lighting and compressed-air systems draw power through long shifts, and electricity is a cost the plant cannot negotiate down with its suppliers — only reduce.
Rooftop solar fits that load profile unusually well. Output climbs through the middle of the day, close to the plant's own demand curve, which means most of the electricity is consumed on site rather than sold back at a lower tariff. Because the array is mounted on roofs the factory already owns, the project adds generation capacity without taking a square metre of land or interrupting operations.
There is a commercial dimension too. Automotive buyers increasingly expect their suppliers to document energy use and carbon performance as part of their own supply-chain reporting. Generating power on site gives a component manufacturer a measurable figure to report — one that improves year after year as the array keeps producing.
